After September 11 many things have changed and a void had been left on the New York skyline; to fill that void and give back hope to New Yorkers, a new World Trade Center was planned.
The first building to be rebuilt was the 7 WTC, inaugurated on May 23, 2006; construction of One WTC, the tallest tower in the complex, began in the same period and finished on November 3, 2014.
4 WTC construction started in January 2008 and was finished by November 13, 2013; finally, 3 WTC is the most recent tower of the complex, inaugurated in June 2018.
Other two towers are planned on the World Trade Center complex: 2 WTC and 5 WTC, whose construction is being delayed because of some financial and political troubles.
The World Trade Center complex includes other buildings, among which the September 11 museum, the Oculus transportation hub and the Perelman Performing Arts Center.
This MOC is a 1:2000 scale replica of the World Trade Center complex as it is today: it includes the One WTC, 7 WTC, the Perelman Performing Arts Center, the Oculus, 3 & 4 WTC, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
2 & 5 WTC are not included on this model since they don’t exist yet and completion dates are uncertain.
To make it as accurate and detailed as possible, the model is designed by using different techniques.
One WTC design is inspired by the LEGO “New York City” Set, but improved by using some trans-blue and grilled tiles, which make it even more realistic.
The use of many trans-light blue and trans-blue tiles on 7 WTC, 3 WTC and 4 WTC facades represents the modern look and brightness of the buildings, while the Oculus‘ design includes a feature that many bricks enthusiasts could define as “illegal”: the use of scissors-cut short hoses, an unusual technique but a nice solution.
Finally, the 9/11 Memorial is recreated by using a lot of green flower round parts arranged around the pools with different angles and heights to give a more realistic “forest” look.
