The Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker is a military aerial refueling tanker as well as one of the most strategically important and long-lived aircraft in the U.S. Air Force; it was initially tasked with refueling strategic bombers like the B-52, but it was later used in conflicts such as the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm to extend range and endurance of US tactical fighters.
The KC-135 was developed in the 50s by the Boeing 367-80 prototype and its first flight took place on August 31, 1956; many of these aircraft are still in service today.
The Stratotanker has a fuel capacity of 200.000 lb (90.700 kg), a crew of 3 (pilot, co-pilot and boom operator), and it is powered by four CFM International CFM56 turbofan engines.
This MOC is a 1:80 scale replica of the KC-135 Stratotanker, designed in every detail and with all the features of the real aircraft:
– Retractable landing gear
– Moving aerodynamic surfaces (flaps, elevators, rudder)
– Moving flying boom
The model also includes a display stand.
